| Virgie Oberg, 106 years old, passed away on April 3, 2007 with her granddaughter by her side. Born October 30, 1900 , she spent her youth in a log cabin without electricity, telephone or plumbing. She moved easily through the changes of time and up until her last few months used the Internet to keep up with her friends and family. | |
| At 6 years of age, Virgie traveled to school in Exeter riding a donkey. She went to high school 20 miles away in Blythe and attended Heald College in Riverside . | |
Virgie married Harry Oberg in 1920 and moved to Fresno where they had one daughter, Esther. She resided in Fresno for sixty years. |

| Virgie had a complete and full life. She worked as a legal secretary for 18 years and volunteered at Community Hospital in Fresno for 20 years. Her biggest passion was traveling. Virgie and Harry went to England , France and on numerous cruises. When Harry passed away in 1971 she continued to travel with her daughter, granddaughter and great-grandchildren visiting China , India , Egypt among other countries. | |
| She was the oldest member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, Yosemite Parlor No. 187 and was a member of the Service Alliance of Fresno Community Medical Center. | |
| All her life she was a pillar of strength and source of inspiration to her grandchildren, relatives and friends. All who were touched by her will forever miss her deep spirituality, love and profound care of others. | |
Her husband and daughter preceded her in death. Virgie is survived by her son-in-law, Richard Beck, granddaughter, Denise Mayfield , and great grandchildren, Laura Gerst, her husband Greg, Rick Mayfield and 2 great-great grandchildren. |

| There will be a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery in Fresno on April 26 at 11:30 followed by a reception at the home of Chris and Helen Rockas. | |
