This Information Obtained From: 1. James Franklin Kirkman 2. Vivian Jordan
Mervyn Kirkman was born in Visalia, California, to Frank Charles Kirkman and Ester Elizabeth Hash Kirkman. Mervyn was the first child in this marriage and soon after his brother Charles was born their mother Esther passed away due to kidney problems.
Mervyn's father's sudden marriage to Mary Borgman within six months of his mother's passing certainly helped fuel the stressful relationship that developed between the boys and their stepmother. Mervyn's stepmother Mary resolved this issue with Mervyn and Charles to the relief of other family members prior to his passing in 1966.
After school each day Mervyn and his brother Charles helped with the chores at the Venice Hill ranch while their father was at work. In the meantime they were blessed with additional siblings; Donald, Richard and Jeanne.
He was educated in local schools where he participated in choir, baseball and basketball. After graduation from Visalia Junior College he married Vivian Earlene Jordan at her parents home 2.75 miles south of Farmersville, Tulare County, California.
They lived in Los Angeles where Mervyn worked in construction and then moved back to the Jordan Brothers Ranch (owned by James E. and William F. "Bill" Jordan) where they lived and Mervyn worked on the ranch. He later became a partner in the Jordan Brother's farming corporation along with farming on his own in the Farmersville area.
After the death of his partner and father in law James Earl Jordan, Mervyn continued to farm grapes, deciduous fruit and continue his partnership with Nelson Roper in the fruit packing/shipping business. Mervyn went to work for Nash De Camp after Mr. Roper's death and a packing house fire. He was working for Nash De Camp at the time of his Death.

In our database of Illinois Primitive Baptist members, I have the
names of James, John, Joseph and Levi Jordan who were in Illinois at an
early date. I don't have much info on them, although I believe I have a
note that Joseph may have been one of the first settlers in Franklin Co.
Levi and James were both members of the Okaw Church near Shelbyville.
Joseph was a charter member of the church at Webb's Prairie which my Webb
ancestors helped establish.

John Jordan Obituary
We regret to learn that Mr. John Jordan, an old and respected citizen of this place, was accidentally drowned in Kern River, on Sunday 22d inst. Mr. Jordan and two others attempted to cross the river which is very deep and swift, on a raft, which was washed against some drift wood and over set. Mr. Jordan, was thrown into and under the water, but rose again and swam some 50 yards, when, his strength being exhausted, he again sunk and was carried by the current under the drift wood, where, it is probable, his body still remains. His companions, one of whom was his son, fortunately escaped. He was born in what is now the State of Illinois, in 1807, and immigrated to this State from Texas in 1850. He leaves a wife and 8 children, who have the sympathy of the entire community in their terrible bereavement. Deceased was a thorough frontiersman, utterly fearless of danger and a good swimmer, qualities, which often led him to face dangers which more timid men would have avoided. (The Visalia Times Delta, June 5, 1862.)

Just found that Silas T. Jordan was in Tombstone,Arizona during the late 1870's and early 1880's. He's found on the 1880 Tombstone Village,Pima,AZ census as a Supervisor over a Wood Ranch. His wife and 3 daughters and 2 sons live with him as well as a miner, carpenter and 2 Teamsters. In looking at the census I realized these Jordan children were the only children on the page, nothing but bar keepers, teamsters and miners. I feel for his wife Mary and their children because life in a mining town wasn't very easy. The OK Corral gunfight happened I believe in 1881. No proof that this family was still there, could have been. I live in Mesa Arizona only a 3 hr. drive from Tombstone so sometime in the next few months before it gets too hot, I'll try and make a trip down there to see what else I can discover. tami_allred@@yahoo.com Tami Allred 1/30/2003
